How it Works
Candidates who seek the office of Suffolk County Legislator in a primary, general, or special election are eligible to participate and receive public matching funds if they comply with all program requirements;
- Meet a two-part threshold - Demonstrate Community Support
- Secure a minimum of 30 small donations ($250 or less) totaling $5,000 from donors who reside in their respective legislative district.
- Agree not to accept any individual contribution in excess of the aggregate limits:
- Mind your maximums
- Register and agree to comply with the requirements of Charter Law §42.
- Be a certified candidate to appear on the ballot and have an opponent.
- Submit all required financial disclosures and supporting documentation in accordance with State and County election laws.
Make every vote count - Engage your Constituents
Matching funds amplify the voices of all residents and encourage them to participate in elections. Candidates qualify to receive matching funds by first raising a minimum in small-dollar donations.
For County Legislator: Candidates for the Office of County Legislator qualify by raising a minimum of $5,000 in small donations ($250 max) from at least 30 individual donors who reside in their respective legislative district.
