How it Works Raise & Spend Wisely Register with SCCFB Financial Statements & Disclosures

How it Works

Candidates who seek the office of Suffolk County Executive or Suffolk County Legislator in a primary, general, or special election are eligible to participate and receive public matching funds if they comply with all program requirements;

  • Meet a two-part threshold - Demonstrate Community Support
    • Legislator: secure a minimum of 30 small donations ($250 or less) totaling $5,000 from donors who reside in their respective legislative district.
    • Executive: secure a minimum of 150 donations ($250 or less) totaling $25,000 from donors who reside in Suffolk County.
  • Agree not to accept any individual contribution in excess of the aggregate limits:
    • Legislator: $1,500
    • County Executive: $25,000
  • Agree not to accept total contributions in excess of prescribed limits:
    • Legislator:
      • General Only: $50,000
      • General and Primary: $80,000
    • County Executive:
      • General Only: $1,000,000
      • General and Primary: $1,200,000
  • Agree not make campaign expenditure in excess of prescribed limits:
    • Legislator:
      • General Only: $100,000
      • General and Primary: $150,000
    • County Executive:
      • General Only: $2,000,000
      • General and Primary: $2,500,000
  • Register and agree to comply with the requirements of Charter Law §42.
  • Be a certified candidate to appear on the ballot and have an opponent.
  • Submit all required financial disclosures and supporting documentation in accordance with State and County election laws.

Matching funds amplify the voices of all residents and encourage them to participate in elections. Candidates qualify to receive matching funds by first raising a minimum in small-dollar donations.

For County Legislator: Candidates for the Office of County Legislator qualify by raising a minimum of $5,000 in small donations ($250 max) from at least 30 individual donors who reside in their respective legislative district.

For County Executive: Candidates for County Executive qualify by raising a minimum of $25,000 in small donations ($250 max) from at least 150 individual donors who reside in Suffolk County.

Adhere to program guidelines for accepting donations and spending campaign funds. When in doubt contact the Suffolk County Campaign Finance Board for guidance.

Register online with CFB - Coming Soon!

To get started register using SCCFB CONTENDER software application (coming soon!). This is the tool which participating campaigns use to participate in the matching funds program.

When registering, you will need the following documents:

  1. Your campaign's Employer Identification Number (EIN)
  2. Campaign Bank Account Information
  3. A copy of a canceled/voided check from your campaign account
  4. Name and info of your campaign's Treasurer and staff
Submit timely and accurate contributions and expenditures to the Suffolk County Campaign Finance Board

Participating candidates will be required to submit timely financial disclosure statements to the Campaign Finance Board and comply with both County Charter Law Chapter 42 and New York State Election Law § 14-100 NYS Election law.
